Ombre Nails

I really like doing nails. They don't last very long, but they certainly keep me from biting my nails.

I wanted to try something different and decided on the ombre style.
Materials:
3 nail polish colors
toothpick
wax paper
some type of  smooth sponge
nail polish remover
q-tip

1. Layer on the wax paper your three colors. My top color is blue, then silver, and then white.

2. Take your toothpick and mix the colors only where they meet.

3. Press your sponge into the mixed color.
4. Roll the sponge from one side of your nail to the other. You aren't smearing or smudging the color, just rolling it. Make sure you lift up your sponge at the end instead of dragging it off the nail.

5. You will have nail polish around the skin around your nails. There are two ways I know of that you can fix this. The first is to put nail polish remover on a q-tip and rub the polish off the skin with this. This was my choice. The second is to put Vaseline on the skin around the outside of the nail. However, because I was using a sponge, if I used the Vaseline, it would be a one time sponge use and I wanted to use my sponge as many times as possible.

Sorry, I didn't snap a finished pic. Maybe the next time I do this, I will remember to take one I can add later.

Angry Birds Nails

Every once in a while I have the opportunity to work with special needs children. One of them really enjoys Angry Birds. Anything and everything that has to do with Angry Birds this child knows about. One day, this student saw that I had some fun nail polish on my fingernails and asked if I could put Angry Birds on my nails. After about a week, I surprised the child with Angry Bird toes. The joy on the student's face was worth the amount of time it took to create these detailed things!

4th of July Nails

My kids love their nails painted. They don't last long, but it sure is fun to do them all fancy. I also need to have my nails painted otherwise I end up biting them without even realizing I'm doing it. I have fond memories as a young girl doing nails with my mom. Back then all we had was color and jewels and stickers which was always so fun to get into. These days, you basically name it and they have it. I really enjoy getting out all the cool nail tools we have and playing around with them.

For this year's 4th of July, the girls wanted something fun. So that is just what we did...

Mom's nails

5 year old's nails.

6 year old's nails.

We also did their toes. We did them the exact opposite of their nails. For example, my 5 year old's nails have the left hand blue with white dots for stars; therefore, her right toes have blue with white dots for stars.

I think I should start posting more fun nail art since we do it all the time! =)
